Columbus Business First’s Corporate Caring Awards – 2009 Honorees: Environmental & Civic
Columbus, Ohio, April 10, 2009 — The president of Oxford Consulting recognizes that a poor economy is not an excuse to cut back on charitable donations.
That’s why the company increased its giving in 2008 despite a decrease in profits.
“Our business, like everyone’s, has been impacted by the economic downturn,” wrote president Michelle Abreu. “Unfortunately, this does not change the size or magnitude of the needs.”
The company donated nearly $9,000 last year and employees bought clothing and food for the homeless, provided household items for domestic violence shelters and supported the Olentangy School District.
Oxford Consulting tries to make its corporate giving a company-wide affair. The business closes for a day so employees can buy and wrap gifts for children in the care of Franklin County Children Services. They also send employees to work for Habitat for Humanity one day a year.
“Our mission is to focus on helping individuals that for a variety of reasons, most of them out of their control, have found themselves in need of kindness and support,” Abreu wrote.
